LDD Robot Wars 2016 Arena

The new Robot Wars arena. This one's much larger than before, both in LEGO and real life. The new arena retains the flipper, the pit, pit release button, the CPZs and the flame grille, and has regained the spikes, last seen in Series 3.

I really like this new arena. When pictures leaked from the pilot filming, it didn't really impress, but after seeing official pics from the Series proper, it's grown on me. Seems they've looked at the flaws of the old arena tried to rectify them: The walls are now higher so OOTAs are much harder, the pit is larger so no anti-pit devices, plus the release button is now further away from the pit so robots shouldn't pit themselves backing away from the button.

As for this model, It's currently the largest in terms of pieces I've made, and it absolutely kills my framerate. I'm probably going to keep working on this, as this is the first arena I've made without a functioning flipper, mostly due to the way it's positioned in the arena. I may also see if I can change the mechanism behind the spikes, as I don't know if it would work very well if I made it in real life. Plus, I don't know how the spikes fire in the new version, whether it's all at once, or one at a time.
